A upgraded performance , higher compression and turbo charging or super charging causes increased stress on all engine fasteners most of all the cylinder head bolts.
Head studs are used primarily for high performance engines with high compression, or for engines using nitrous oxide. A stud kit will come with the studs, set of thick head washers and the nuts. A form of Loctite for the threads is necessary. Permatex is the most highly recommended thread lock.
